Institutional History and Corporate Transformation

The Aksaray University Coordinatorship of the Unit for Students with Disabilities was established in 2009 by a resolution of the Aksaray University Senate to facilitate the academic trajectories of students with disabilities, enact necessary interventions to eliminate barriers encountered in higher education, and cultivate an accessible campus environment. Since its inception, the Unit has maintained its operational mandate under the direct auspices of the Rectorate.

In alignment with our institution’s overarching commitment to educational equity, accessibility, and inclusivity, comprehensive structural initiatives were undertaken to expand the Unit’s remit and operational scope, thereby addressing students' diversifying needs through an integrative framework.

Within this context, pursuant to Aksaray University Senate Decision No. 2026/25-06, dated August 28, 2026, the Unit for Students with Disabilities was formally redesignated as the "Unit for Disadvantaged and Disabled Students."

Through this institutional transformation, the Unit's service mandate was strategically broadened to encompass students from disadvantaged backgrounds alongside students with disabilities.

Today, operating under the Rectorate, the Aksaray University Unit for Disadvantaged and Disabled Students actively fosters the equitable, full, and active participation of students in university life through reasonable academic accommodations, accessible pedagogical materials, physical and digital accessibility interventions, specialized advisory services, social participation initiatives, and institutional advocacy, thereby continuously advancing a rights-based, inclusive, and barrier-free campus culture.
