Organized through the collaborative partnership of the Aksaray University Social Contribution Coordinatorship, the Unit for Students with Disabilities, and the Department of Special Education, the "Collective Wisdom Workshop for an Accessible Aksaray" convened diverse stakeholders over a three-day period, facilitating a significant deliberative process directly addressing the lives of individuals with special needs.
Held between April 28–30, 2026, the workshop brought public institutions, local government bodies, academic personnel, non-governmental organizations, families, and individuals with special needs onto a shared platform to systematically analyze existing challenges and co-develop policy solutions.
The scientific and pedagogical framework of the workshop was formulated through the active contributions and coordination of faculty members from the Aksaray University Department of Special Education.
Day One: Awareness and Knowledge Sharing
The inaugural day commenced with a plenary opening session characterized by broad institutional representation. During the opening proceedings, public agencies presented the spectrum of services currently extended to individuals with special needs across the province, enabling participants to gain a comprehensive overview of the baseline landscape.
A panel discussion held on the same day critically examined the diagnostic and identification process across medical, pedagogical, and academic dimensions.
Day Two: Deliberation on Key Challenges
The second day proceeded through structured focus groups distributed across six thematic roundtables. In-depth problem analyses and strategic interventions were articulated across the domains of visual impairment, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, specific learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, and physical/orthopedic disabilities.
Day Three: Presentation of Proposed Solutions
The final day concluded with the presentation of deliverable outputs derived from the thematic roundtables. The synthesized reports provided an evidence-based strategic roadmap for optimizing disability support services and public infrastructure across Aksaray.
"A Catalyst, Not a Conclusion"
Emphasizing the vital role of multi-stakeholder governance and collective intelligence, participants underscored that the workshop marks an operational baseline rather than an endpoint.
Targeting Sustainable and Actionable Outcomes
The proceedings and policy recommendations generated during the workshop are slated for formal compilation into an analytical policy report to be disseminated among relevant institutional stakeholders and further integrated into ongoing academic research initiatives.
